MONTEVALLO, Ala. — The University of Montevallo will host its first student-led film festival this Saturday, April 11.
The event, recognized as Scene on the Bricks, will hold its inaugural event in the Discover Shelby Theatre from 1 to 7 p.m.
Festival Director Emma McCarrell says the event will be a great opportunity for students to network and chat with filmmakers from across Alabama.
In addition to the free submissions fee, the festival will also be free of charge and handicap accessible for anyone interested in attending.
McCarrell says there will be close to 40 films screening throughout the day, with submissions divided across three separate distinctions: high school, college, and indie.
In addition to the screenings, the event will also see director, writer, and producer Steve Moon speaking on his experience as an independent filmmaker in the South.
Awards for the event will then begin at 6:30 p.m, running until the end of the show.
The ceremony, known as “The Brickies,” will have seven awards to distribute:
- “The Soldier” – Best High School Film
- “The Roman” – Best College Film
- “The Monarch” – Best Indie Film
- “The Shiner” – Best Acting
- “The Keystone” – Best Cinematography
- “The Sailor” – Best Script
- “The Header” – The Judge’s Choice
