UM’s Department of Theatre opens its production of “Carrie: The Musical” Nov. 15 and cast members said it will remind audiences of the Golden Rule: “treat others as you would want to be treated.”
“I hope people take away the importance of kindness and I hope people take away, especially in the climate that we are in now, the importance of doing your best to relate to other people instead of viewing them as an ‘other’ because of the problems that that can cause in a lot of very real ways,” said senior theatre major Robin Stevens.
“Carrie: The Musical” is based on Stephen King’s classic horror novel and tells the story of the not-so-popular Carrie White and her supernatural ability.
Stevens plays the title role of Carrie White and said she has never watched any of the “Carrie” movies in hopes of making the character her own.
“Going into this, I didn’t want to have anyone else’s interpretation clogging my brain,” said Stevens. “I wanted to make sure that I was interpreting what was on the page to the best of my ability.”
“Carrie: The Musical” is showing Nov. 15 through Nov. 18 in the Reynolds Studio Theatre.
