As one of the oldest antique stores in Shelby County, The Blue Building in Alabaster has gathered a unique collection of novelties from time gone by.

After working in the store as a vendor, Suzanne Edinger took over nearly ten years ago. In that time she’s met countless people who frequent the store in search of unique pieces and vintage finds. But she says that what surprises people the most is the actual size of the building.

“It’s one of our biggest comments,” She shares. ” ‘Wow, this place is huge!’ ”

She says that many people visit the store to not only find unique treasures but for the feeling of nostalgia that comes with seeing the accumulation of decades worth of antiques.

The Blue Building has also caught the attention of prop masters and set designers looking for authentic vintage pieces to set the scene.

“I think over the last three years, all of the John Travolta movies that have been filmed in Birmingham we’ve provided things for.” Edinger adds.

As the holiday season begins, Edinger says she’s started to see more people coming into the store looking for unique presents for their loved ones. The Blue Building is always open through Christmas Eve to give shoppers the opportunity to find the perfect present.

The Blue Building will be holding their annual Open House event on December 8, 2018 with discounts throughout the store.
