This year begins a new century for College Night since last year marked the 100th anniversary of the tradition.

College Night is the longest standing homecoming tradition in the country and is unique to Montevallo. The campus divides into two sides, Purple and Gold, to compete in musical theater, sports, and spirit competitions. Everything is done by students including writing an original play and music as well as business and many other logistics.

Preparations for College Night begin in the summer when executive cabinet is selected. The cabinet work together to plan mixers and socials for students in the fall. Auditions for the show and interest meetings for sports and other positions in the production are held before the holiday breaks.

Once students return in January College Night season is in full swing. The campus is decked out in purple and gold ribbons to welcome students back to school. Students stay up late for rehearsals and practice before the big night in February.

The week everyone prepares for comes the first week in February every year. This year, February 5-8th. College Night sporting events are held the weekend before the big performance. Opening night of the musical is held on Wednesday and the big finale where winners are announced are on Saturday, better known as Sweet Saturday.

Each side has some extra tricks up their sleeve to start off the new era and encourage everyone to participate in College Night.

It has not been announced when ticket sales will start but, typically go on sale here in mid January.
