Even though Montevallo’s Student Government Association isn’t able to meet in person because of COVID-19, meetings are still taking place over Zoom and legislation is still being written.

Senators voted on April 6th to allocate $2,000 to purchase supplies for 3D Face Shields made by Michael Price in the Digital Media Lab on campus.

“This started out as me trying to help some folks. People heard and wanted to help. SGA became one of those supporters and its been such great blessing to the effort we are working on,” said Michael Price.

The Student Government Association saw how the university was able to help during the pandemic and wanted to offer their helping hand to the community as well.

Price has received requests for the personal protective equipment  (PPE) from Shelby Baptist Hospital, Shelby Ridge Rehab, and Huntsville Chamber of Commerce.

The $2,000 donation will make roughly 888 masks. With the requests for masks Price is already getting, this donation should sustain the project for two months at the current rate of need and production.

The Student Government Association said they will continue to monitor the need for PPE and consider writing more legislation to donate more funds for this project.
