The University of Montevallo’s University Program Council had their first event of the semester on Thursday, January 28 at 6:00 p.m. over Zoom. This event was a movie trivia event. There were 60 questions that were broken into six categories: horror movies, sequels, animated films, pictures, movie posters, and rom-coms.
Due to COVID-19, all of UPC’s events will be virtual this semester. UPC President Dria Hawkins says this might have an effect on turnout for these events.
“I’ve noticed, like in our SGA surveys, a lot of our counterparts don’t enjoy looking at a screen all day, even if it’s something like an event. I mean, sitting and looking at your computer is not really fun, and I fully understand that, but I still do want students to join,” said Hawkins.
The UPC was also affected by COVID-19 last semester as they had to do all of their events online then as well. These included other trivia events, a virtual escape room, and a show performed by mind reader Eric Dittleman.

Hawkins said that some of the remaining events that UPC is putting on this semester could look similar to this one.
“We are going to be doing more trivia events. I think we have two more of those. We always do Stuff A Friend, an event where members of the Purple and Gold side make stuffed animals of their mascots, and we are trying to find a way to do that this semester as well. We are also doing a painting class that will be virtual and a dance workshop”.
The three top scorers in the movie trivia event received a prize.
