The Univeristy of Montevallo announced last month the plans to hold an in-person graduation this year.

The graduation ceremony will be for the Spring 2021 graduates and will take place on Flower Hill, the lawn nof the President’s house.

Due to COVID-19, the Spring and Fall 2020 classes didn’t have an in-person graduation. So, they will be honored the same day as the Spring 2021 class.

Some students like the idea of having a combined graduation ceremony, while some other students do no like the idea.

“Personally, I really like that Montevallo is combing the Spring and Fall 2020 commencement with the Spring 2021 commencement because I feel like it honors all of us graduating because I know the spring and fall didn’t get to have that opportunity.”said Spring 2021 senior Cindy Shelton.

Alex Warren, another Spring 2021 senior, said “It is a little upsetting, I of course want the other two classes to be able to have an in-person graduation, I think they deserve that, however, I don’t think it’s fair for the university to take away from mine. It seems like I’ll have to limit how many guests I can bring so that other graduates can come while I think it would be smarter to space out the graduations.”

Graduation is scheduled for May 8, 2021 at 9:00 A.M. for the Spring 2021 graduates and 5:00 P.M. for the Spring and Fall 2020 graduates.

Face masks and social distancing is required. Each graduate is only allowed 5 guests. For more info on graduation, go to the Univerisity of Monntevallo website.
