On Feb. 24, UPC had held an event The Homage Exhibit. It took place in Anna Irvin Dining Hall from 2-7 pm.
Students were able to take a self-walk guided tour of the exhibit, and explore over 500 artifacts that the exhibit had displayed. Items date back all the way to 1863. No matter the time period, the exhibit had everything to offer learning more about Black History.
The exhibit is a private collection of artifacts from husband and wife Nia and Morris McAdoo.
They are from North Carolina, and started the collection of artifacts 15 years ago. It all started with being involved in former President Barack Obama’s campaign for President.
“My grandmother who lives in New York would collect everything from newspapers to magazines and mail it to us,” says Nia.
From that moment forward Nia and her husband have been collecting every since.
What Nia wants everyone to learn from the exhibit is that Black History is an important factor in American history. “Every time we show the exhibit we are showing people everything the highs and lows and everything in between,” says McAdoo.
