Throughout your college years, you’ll want to save your work. Once you save your work, you’ll want to showcase it for others to see. This is one of the ways to help you get a job.

A digital portfolio will be your best option. Many students and professionals have a digital portfolio. These portfolios should be used to share your best work.

Whether it be written work or videos, it can all be shared. Dr. Stephanie Dean, Assistant Professor of Mass Communication at the university, held a beginner’s digital portfolio workshop on Wednesday March 23rd. During this workshop, she went of the basics of a portfolio and how she started one.

“Having a portfolio really does make a difference when employers start looking at you” said Dr. Dean.

One of the most important things she touched on was investing in a host for your portfolio. Reclaim Hosting is what she recommends. “I’ve been with them since 2014, and I love it. It’s only I think $35 a year, which isn’t bad” said Dr. Dean.

Dr. Dean also touched on different sites that can be used for creating your portfolio. “If you want to have 20 different sites on here [WordPress.org], you can and you don’t have to pay for each one. I have nine different websites running on that one small account. If we did nine different websites running on WordPress.com, and you wanted to have the not “wordpress.com” on it, you have to pay for each one of those sites.

Many students who attended the workshop had a few thoughts. Danielle Lee, a senior mass communication major, says she feels like she learned a lot about website hosting and it was very informative.

“I believe everyone should learn about website hosting and creating a portfolio. It can really help you build your brand and show others what you can do, and the work you’ve done” said Lee.

Others say this workshop was insightful, and helpful. There are likely to be more workshops like this in the future. To stay up-to-date on what’s happening in the Mass Communication program, follow them on their social media pages.
