About Esclavon
Esclavon Prewitt is a junior Mass Comm Major at the University of Montevallo from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. At the age of 21, he is the President of NPHC, Vice President of Alpha Phi Alpha, member of the track team, BSU(Black Student Union) and M.A.D.E.
Prewitt had this to say when asked why he decided to become a member of Alpha Phi Alpha. “When I was coming up in high school, I was in the youth organization, and my mentors were actually Alpha Phi Alpha men. And I always saw them doing great things on their campus and in their community. And I like how they took me in as their little brother and in that little brother aspect I got to see what it was like to see great men do great things in their community.”

One of his mentors, Denzel Davis, passed away while Pruitt was in high school. And after seeing how big of an impact at Stillman College and the Tuscaloosa community Denzel’s passing had, Prewitt became inspired and wanted to follow in his footsteps. “I see these men out here in the community. I see what being an Alpha can do for me in the business aspect; bringing me a lot of brothers I can always depend on, I can always have an internship if I ever need a job, and really the connections and the brotherhood is what brought me to be a man of Alpha Phi Alpha.”
A Brother of Alpha Phi Alpha
“When I first came on the yard, it was very new to me.” Prewitt has been on the yard for a little over a year. His first day on the yard was April 7th, 2021. At the 91st Regional Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Conference Prewitt along with his brothers stayed in a penthouse suite during the event.
While attending the conference they employed him to do work in the IT department. “The conference brought me many friends/brothers, many relationships to where I can call if I need something and I know it’s going to get done, and older Alphas brought mentorship and advice in life anytime I talk to them.
“Man, when you walk in the door, you just feel all the love and the aspects of it. It was a great experience, I got [the opportunity] to be in business sessions and then just kick it, stroll with the bruhs, things like that. You feel the brotherhood when you walk in the door.”
Recent Acknowledgements
Prewitt was recently featured on the official Alpha Phi Alpha Instagram page. “They told me a week before that I was going to be featured Tuesday, so there was a build up to that, so I was just anxious until I found out,” he said. “It felt like lil it was a blessing, doing all of this work, all of these [food/clothing] drives, and community services and meetings knowing someone sees it.”
Prewitt looks forward to moving up from Vice President to President of the campus chapter and more opportunities for track and his other clubs. “I want anyone to feel that experience, to be recognized for the work that they do. It’s good for other people to see that we are more than just our race, we are smart, intelligent and we can have leadership positions.”
