University of Montevallo has many resources available to students, but some resources go unnoticed by some students. One of those resources is the digital media lab located on the ground floor of Carmichael Library just past the desktop computers. I had the chance to talk to Digital Media and Emerging Technologies Librarian Michael Price. While interviewing Michael Price he described the digital media lab as “a collaborative workspace, it’s a mostly Apple Mac lab we do have a couple of PCs that are available for students that want to use a PC, it has all the same software as the Apples.” Other resources that are open to students is a 3-D printer, laser cutter and a green screen for photo and digital editing. The digital media lab also hosts some student lead events, “we do a comic book show that you’ve probably seen in the library before that’s all English class based, we have a history class that comes over and does scanning, some 3-D scanning, for creating an archive of materials that are related to the topic they are studying or doing research about and we also have students come over and create podcasts. All the resources here are available for any student and any faculty to use,” said Michael Price. For those interested in using any of the resources in the digital media lab reach out to Michael Price at mprice3@montevallo.edu, “please come use the digital media lab the hours are posted on the door as you come into the lab and the hours also posted on the website libguides.montevallo.edu. come in, use the space, if you have a project you want to talk about reach out to me and let’s talk about getting your project done,” said Michael Price.
