Opera Information

Dr. Charles Wood chose the opera “The Merry Wives of Windsor” by Otto Nicolai, which is an adaptation of Shakespeare’s play.

“I’ve never done this opera before… but I also like the music and it kind of fit our group, except there are more characters,” said Dr. Wood.

Dr. Wood is directing and arranged the performance.

The production is performed by an all-student cast with an orchestra.

The cast are all students in Dr. Wood’s class and audition at the beginning of the school year.

“It’s such a funny story and the music is amazing,” said Licee Freeman, a senior at UM.

Freeman portrays Mrs. Ford in the show. “She’s so mischievous, her and her best friend Mrs. Page, and it’s a lot of fun,” Freeman said.

Due to limited practice time this semester, the opera is done in concert style.

“That’s where we’re dressed in formal wear and we have our music in front,” said Freeman. “Next year it should be back to the costumes and stuff like that.”
