His career and advice to young students

Montevallo, Ala- Caleb Jones started his career just like everyone other students on the bricks. He enrolled on the campus of the University of Montevallo in the Fall of 2017 majoring in Mass Communications.
Jones later realized that he enjoyed writing and the Public relations side of mass media so he switched his major to communication studies. Jones walked across the stage and graduated with his B.S. in the spring of 2021.
After graduating and using his experiences from The Alabamian and The Birmingham Times he got a job with the University of Alabama at Birmingham in the Communication Department at the UAB School of Optometry
The UAB School of optometry is the school that prepares students to be the next professionals in Eye Care, Caleb primarily does PR work and social media management tasks for the department.
When asked what his day-to-day work is like Jones responded “I manage the UAB eye care social media I work on the newsletters that go out monthly for student alumni and students, and I do various administrative tasks, which could be external or internal communication task. I have to manage time well because the school of optometry is small so it is only him and his boss.” He also said there are a few skills needed to do his job.

- Be an effective communicator. Be very clear and direct
- Knowing how to adapt to different people
- Time Management. DEADLINES
- Effective writing. Use it every day
- Be curious, Be innovative
Advice that Caleb gave to students in the Mass Comm program now is to always be connecting, step out of your comfort zone, do internships, and know your worth.
