The University of Montevallo Men’s basketball team finished their 2022-2023 season Saturday with a close loss at Auburn University at Montgomery. That loss made the team final record 10-18 with an 8-16 conference record. The team was led by Braxton Bertolette averaging 22.1 points a game and Mason Shiflett with 14 points and 6 rebounds.

Senior James Mcneil detailed how he felt about the team as a whole, James said “This season was the toughest for me because we didn’t make playoffs and it was kind of up and down throughout it but everything happens for a reason and will only make you better as a person.”

Mcneil played the final game of his college career Saturday, he reflected on his long career “I will tell them to take this time we have and enjoy your college experience as much as possible. You only get four years to play college basketball and then after you are basically on your own. It ain’t guaranteed you will be a professional athlete after. Definitely will tell them to work even harder. I could have put in more work myself but was focused on other things.
The main thing is to have fun.”
The men the did not make the Gulf South Conference tournament, but is already preparing for next year.
