The course withdrawal date is approaching fast for the spring 2023 semester. If you are a student who is unsure about which classes to drop, UM has resources to help with the decision process.

The last day to withdraw from one or more courses is Monday, March 13. The Falcon Success Center strongly encourages students to meet with an advisor if they are considering course withdrawal.

Several resources are available on campus to help students who are struggling academically in their classes.

The Falcon Success Center can help with advising, tutoring, financial aid and scholarships.

What You Can Do

Financial Help:

If you need to drop a class for financial reasons, students can set up an appointment with the registrar’s office for information about program and degree resources and registration information. Click the link here for email and contact information.

Tutoring:

If you need tutoring help, the Learning Enrichment Center offers free tutoring services in many subjects. The LEC is located on the lower level of Carmichael Library.

They offer individual tutoring as well as small-group tutoring. For students who can not make it in person, LEC also offers online tutoring. Students are also encouraged to drop by without an appointment for drop-in tutoring.

To make a tutoring appointment, you can sign up on their website.

If you are considering dropping a class, LEC also has an assessment of academic needs where you can meet with a staff member to discuss any academic concerns you may have.

TRIO:

TRIO Support Services can help students with tutoring, educational support, or leadership development.

“While all students have an assigned major adviser, TRIO SSS participants also have a committed group of professional staff that helps supplement and reinforce the adviser’s information, such as registration procedures, making wise choices in selecting courses, and meeting various academic deadlines,” says TRIO’s website.

TRIO is flexible to accommodate students’ schedules. Click the link here for contact information.

Writing Help:

Students who need help writing papers across all disciplines can schedule an appointment with the Harbert Writing Center – at no charge.

The writing center will “help with all parts of the writing process, from brainstorming to revision to polishing.” Click the link here to set up a meeting with trained consultants.

Counseling:

Feeling overwhelmed this semester? UM can provide counseling services to meet the mental health, emotional, safety, and physical needs of students in the community. For more information about how to contact them, click here.

The new Grainger Community Counseling and Wellness Clinic also offers free counseling. To make an appointment, visit their website.
