Senior Swimmer Will Mahone made University of Montevallo athletics history earlier this month. Mahone was not only the first swimmer to qualify for nationals with the program, he is the programs first NCAA Division II All-American. He has been only swimming competitively since his sophomore year in high school.
Mahone qualified in two events for nationals hosted in Indianpolis,IN qualifying in both the 100 yard Backstroke and the 200 yard backstroke with times of 43.88 seconds and 1 minute and 46 seconds.
Mahone said ” Just knowing you made it to nationals is an awesome experience, its an overwhelming different high”. he said “its really just a fun time.”
Mahone finished the meet in 23rd place in the 100 yard backstroke and in 8th place in the 200 yard backstroke which qualified him to be an All-American. If you want to check out the meet results, here is the link.

Mahone said ” Its weird being the first person ever in this program history to have made it”
He plans to take his fifth year and return to the Univerity next season.He is already preparing for next season and he hopes to return as an two time all American by this time next year.
