With spring break over and finals approaching soon, students may start to feel stressed and anxious with all the work they will soon have on their plate.

If students are looking for an escape from campus life, CreACTive is just the place to go.

Located in Alabaster, CreACTive is a cafe, yoga center, art center and much more.

The CreACTive building is actually the oldest standing building in Alabaster. When asked why she picked this building for a place like this Eileen Leslie, the owner and founder of CreACTive, says the building chose her.

“This wasn’t for sale. I was just walking around and I thought it was abandoned and the building spoke to me and I stalked the owners, found out who they were and went up to them and asked if they wanted to sell it and they did.”

Eileen says she started this place out of a purpose.

“I had a long term career as a financial fraud investigator and life kinda blew up,” Eileen says, “So I took some time to really find out who I am and like I said everything in here is what heals me and so I started it out of sheer passion to share it with others.”

CreACTive offers different healing methods such as yoga which includes Yin Yoga, Trapeze Yoga, and Yoga Flow. However there are many classes for people of all skill levels such as beginner level classes.

Trapeze Yoga is a style of yoga that incorporates traditional yoga postures with the use of a suspended parachute fabric rig.

Other forms of therapy include massage therapy, Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy and Reiki.

CreACTive offers more than therapies and yoga though.

Students looking for a quaint place away from campus can study at their café. The café sells a variety of coffees, teas, and smoothies while also selling foods such as salads, sandwiches, pastries and breakfast items.

Students looking for ways to unleash some creativity can sign up for one of the variety of paint classes they offer. They have paint parties, paint your pet group classes and individual lessons with their own artists.

They also host open mic nights where people can come up to sing or perform poetry they wrote.

She describes the community aspect that CreACTtive builds as to the key ingredient that makes this place so special.

“I mean it brings in all different types of people. It doesn’t matter your age, your color, your gender, your income level. you get to come in here and just have community.”
