Small town live music at Sage Bar & Grill in Calera

Live music night

Sage Bar & Grill is in the heart of small-town Calera, Alabama, and home to live music. Usually these happen a couple times a week, and they had an artist come through for Saturday Sept. 18, 2023. While watching the artist perform covers, it was a night full of relaxing music with drinks and food.

Rodney Golden music

The artist who came out to perform that night goes by the name of Rodney Golden. Born in Texas but having family from Cullman, Alabama, he still loves to call Alabama his home and says he is a “Bama boy”. “I do country music because that’s my love, that’s my passion,” Golden said. Golden likes to perform covers of songs as he wants the people watching him to relate to the music being played.

While doing covers, he also has written 210 original country songs and said he loves writing music. Golden was inspired by owner of Lil Bits Tavern in Pelham, Alabama, Jessie Italiano to continue his journey as an artist performing at these open mics. Jessie supports many other artists as well and supports live music and believes in musicians from all levels. Golden was also inspired by guitarist Roger Jones who he says is “very humble” and performs every Wednesday night at Lil Bits Tavern.

Golden didn’t know he would be performing on Saturday ahead of time and that it was a referral. His friend Linnie Roth, who is also a musician, double booked at Sage Bar & Grill on accident and gave the opportunity to Golden. He enjoys performing at open mics and karaoke because of his, “love for music”.

The atmosphere at Sage Bar & Grill

Sage Bar & Grill not only promotes karaoke and live music nights, but they are cultivated by musicianship. This means they are open and welcoming for music performances by up and coming artists. They want to be open to all artists to come in and be comfortable performing in such a friendly environment. “I really love to see people smile and have a good time when I’m serving,” said Ginger Lucas, a server at Sage Bar & Grill.

All the servers at these music nights never serve without a smile because they like watching the customers have a great time. They like to have a packed-out crowd on Saturday nights to impress with their relaxed atmosphere.

Sage Bar & Grill offers a full menu of popular lunch, dinner, and drink specials that everyone loves. They are known for their events such as live music and want people to come out to also enjoy some “delicious food and a variety of beers on tap”.

They like to host regular fun for everyone even special sporting events that is all accompanied by their “mouth-watering” menu.
