The University of Montevallo announced a new COVID-19 quarantine policy that aligns with the CDC’s recommendations.
The new protocol aligns with those for other respiratory viruses. Those who have tested positive for COVID-19 should stay at home and away from others when they are symptomatic but no longer have to isolate for long periods of time if they are symptom free.
Individuals with COVID-19 can return to normal activities if they are fever free for at least 24 hours without the help of medication.
Once returning to normal activities, individuals recovering from any respiratory viruses are still encouraged to take preventative measures to slow the spread of the virus. According to UM’s official statement, these measures include:
- Washing hands often
- Cleaning frequently touched surfaces
- Wearing a mask
- Keeping distance from others
- Opening windows or purifying indoor air.
