The University of Montevallo’s chapter of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, commonly referred to as Fiji, hosted their Fiji Flapjacks fundraiser on Monday, March. 18. The event took place on the Farmer Hall stage and lasted from 4- 7 p.m.

Fiji’s fundraising chair, Caleb Jernigan, discussed the planning that went into the event.

“Every fundraising chair leaves, like, a packet of information for the next one, and I looked at what was done last time, and I thought, ‘How can I improve it?” Jernigan said.

Jernigan explained that these improvements included better social media coverage of the event, better resources and more intense planning.

Fiji member Nethan Crew elaborated, “This is my first time participating in Fiji Flapjacks, and I think it was much more successful than the last time the fraternity did it. It was awesome to serve fellow students breakfast food, especially since most students don’t get homemade food often on campus.”

Plates were sold for $5, and they included two pancakes, a fruit cup and a choice of either sausage or bacon.

As students lined up for food, Fiji members cooked pancakes, bacon and sausage.

Fiji president Ryan Spanier said, “I genuinely love Fiji Flapjacks. It is such a fun fundraiser, and it is a staple fundraiser we like to do because not only do we raise money for our organization, but we also allow people to see our organization and how close we are no matter what we’re doing.”
