Real Estate Developer Stan Pate Addresses Tuscaloosa City officials
Stan Pate, a well known Tuscaloosa real estate developer met with the City Council last week to discuss plans for a new retail and multipurpose commercial development in South Tuscaloosa in the lot where McFarland Mall used to be located.
He called it an “Eat what you kill deal” where the city gets to make money without having to invest significant tax money because of tax rebates. If everything goes according to plan, Pate says the mixed-use development could generate around 10-12 million dollars for the city in around 13-14 years.
Unable to reveal exact stores expected to head to the development Pate did tease some exciting prospects
“Some of their favorites. Some of those ones that people have asked and wished for. Dreams come true. Wishes do”
Located in District 7, the councillor of that district Cassius Lanier is incredibly excited at the prospect of this development being built on the same land that the mall used to be, and for the people in his district.
“It’s a dynamic spot. It’s the front door of the city and… doing this project really restores a sense of pride in district 7. This was one of the best sides of town and I believe it still is… I’m excited man. Who wouldn’t be excited”
The City is expected to vote on the development this week, and with several of the City Councillors voicing their support in the meeting along with the mayor, it looks like the people in District 7 have a reason to be excited.
