MONTEVALLO Ala.– One dollar dog day was held on Tuesday evening at Bob Riesener Stadium, as the Montevallo falcon’s baseball team took on the Colombus state cougars. Everyone who was in attendance was able to purchase hot dogs for only a dollar each. The Falcons won the game by a final score of eight to five.
The event however has a unique purpose, Athletic director Mark Richard shared what exactly makes dollar dog night special. “Johnny Holsombeck worked for the physical plant, he loved to cook for our student athletes, he would have BBQ’s and team meals.”
The Johnny Holsombeck endowment was setup after Johnny’s passing, with the goal of supporting future cookouts for student-athletes. Johnny’s brother, Montevallo assistant softball coach Ronnie Holsombeck, as well as Johnny’s sister Cindy were presented with a check for the Johnny Holsombeck fund.
