MONTEVALLO, Ala. – University of Montevallo junior Ryder Shearer is bringing some Halloween spirit to campus each time he drives across the bricks.
The environmental studies major has turned his 2006 BMW into the iconic Ecto-1 car from the “Ghostbusters” movies.
“I actually got that tag from the actual Ghostbusters fire department in New York,” Ryder said, pointing out the orange and black license place on the front bumper.
From there, Ryder says he was hooked on the idea of giving his car a movie makeover.
“Everyone thought it was kind of dumb, but I thought it was still one of the coolest things in the world,” he says. “And I saw the car, and I’m like, ‘That is the dumbest looking car – but it’s so cool!'”
Ryder says he hopes seeing his homemade Ectomobile makes people happy.
“There’s already a lot of negativity in the world, and, like, anything that I can do to bring a smile to someone’s face, I want to do it in a heartbeat.”
After Halloween season comes to an end, Ryder plans on retiring the Ghostbusters decorations and exchange them for a Christmas tree.
But until then, Ecto-1 will continue to patrol the streets of Montevallo, keeping everyone safe from roaming ghosts and ghouls.
